Tile Sampler
Designer node that scatters patterns
Also known as: Substance Designer Tile Sampler · Designer tile sampler node · Designer scatter · Designer pattern distribution · Tile Sampler Designer
Definition
The Tile Sampler is a Substance Designer node that scatters a pattern across an image with controls for position, size, rotation, randomness and color. It can arrange patterns in a grid, randomize their positions, and use several different patterns at once through its inputs. It is one of the most used nodes in Substance Designer, and is the basis of stones, pebbles, leaves, tiles, scratches and many other textures.
In production
Feed it a clean shape as the pattern, set the number of patterns in the X and Y directions, and add random scale, rotation and offset for natural variation. Output both the mask and the per-pattern random gray value, which can drive color and height variation. High pattern counts at high resolution make the graph slow, so build at low resolution, and consider the FX-Map for more complex layouts.
