  3. 3.Study how to construct a tileable brick or cobblestone material by combining height, normal, and color workflows
  4. 4.Learn to expose parameters so finished materials can be adjusted in Painter or UE5 without reopening Designer
  5. 5.Create a custom smart material filter for Painter by packaging your graph as an .sbsar with mapped inputs

Quick Tip

Use the Pixel Processor node when you need custom per-pixel math that no existing node covers — it accepts GLSL-style functions and lets you create completely novel effects without waiting for Adobe to ship a new node.

Setup Notes

  • - Configure the 2D and 3D viewport to use the PBR rendering mode from the start — default preview modes can be misleading about how materials will look in engine
  • - Set the default graph resolution to 2048x2048 in Preferences; you can always override per-graph, but starting at the right resolution avoids invisible tiling artifacts
  • - Use Function Graphs inside nodes (right-click any parameter > "Use Dynamic Value") to drive parameter values with math — this unlocks truly procedural material variation
