Project All

Transfer sculpted detail onto new topology

Also known as: ZBrush Project All · ZBrush projection · ZBrush transfer detail · ZBrush retopo project · ZBrush project high poly

Definition

Project All is a ZBrush command, found in the SubTool palette under Project, that transfers sculpted detail from one SubTool to another that has a similar shape. It is the standard step after retopology: ZRemesher builds a clean mesh, you subdivide it and project the detail from a copy of the original sculpt onto it, so the new topology carries the old detail. The Dist setting controls how far ZBrush searches for the surface.

In production

Duplicate the high-detail sculpt, ZRemesh one copy, subdivide it to a high level and then use Project All, repeating at each level if needed. The shapes must be close to each other for the projection to work, and a small Dist avoids grabbing wrong surfaces. It is also used to refine a base mesh built in another program with the detail of a sculpt. Check the result on thin areas and overlapping parts.
