Pixel Processor
Designer node that runs a custom function per pixel
Also known as: Substance Designer Pixel Processor · Designer pixel processor node · Designer custom filter · Pixel Processor function graph
Definition
The Pixel Processor is a Substance Designer node that runs a custom function graph on every pixel of an image. Inside it, a function graph can read the pixel's value and its neighbours and calculate a new value, which makes it possible to create custom filters and effects that no ordinary node offers, such as special blurs, edge detection and distortions. It is one of the most flexible nodes in Designer, but also one of the most expensive.
In production
Use it when no existing node does what you need, and keep the function small. Pixel Processors cost a lot at high resolution, so work at a lower size while building, and check whether a stock node can replace the effect, since stock nodes are faster and better optimized. Learning the function graph language also helps with Substance Painter and Designer's other function graphs.
