ZModeler
Polygon modeling brush in ZBrush
Also known as: ZBrush ZModeler · ZBrush polygon modeling · ZBrush Q menu · ZBrush hard surface modeling · ZBrush extrude brush
Definition
ZModeler is a ZBrush brush for polygon modeling. Hovering over points, edges and polygons shows a menu of actions, such as Extrude, Inset, Bevel, Bridge, Delete and Insert Edge Loop, so you can build and edit clean topology directly inside ZBrush instead of switching to another program. It works with polygroups as targets and with Dynamic Subdivision, and it is widely used for hard-surface and base mesh modeling.
In production
Use it to build clean base meshes, armor and props, and combine it with Dynamic Subdivision to see the smoothed result. Targets set what an action affects: a single polygon, a polygroup or a connected area. Plan the topology before you start, as with any polygon modeler. For long hard-surface jobs many artists still prefer Blender or Maya for the modeling and use ZBrush for sculpting and detail.
