Polygroups
Colored face groups used for selection and control
Also known as: ZBrush polygroups · ZBrush Group · ZBrush Ctrl W · ZBrush polygroup · ZBrush AutoGroups
Definition
Polygroups are colored groups of polygons in ZBrush that organize a mesh. They can be used to hide or show parts, select and mask areas, guide ZRemesher so it keeps the borders of a group as edge loops, and separate parts into SubTools. Pressing Ctrl+W with part of the mesh visible creates a polygroup from it, and the Polygroups settings in the Tool palette build them automatically from other data.
In production
Group parts by function, such as clothes, skin, eyes and metal, and use the groups for fast selection and masking. With ZRemesher, enabling Polygroups keeps the group borders sharp so panel lines and seams stay in place. Polygroups can also be exported as vertex color to give Substance Painter a Color ID map. Create them before remeshing, since they guide the new topology.
