Turntable Render
Rotating presentation of an asset
Also known as: Turntable · 360 render · Portfolio turntable · ArtStation turntable · Asset turntable · Marmoset turntable
Definition
A turntable render is a video or animation of a 3D asset rotating a full turn on a neutral base, used to present a model in portfolios and on sites such as ArtStation. It shows the form from all sides, the quality of the texturing and the materials under controlled lighting. Typical turntables show the textured model and often the clay or wireframe versions, in a few seconds of looping video.
In production
Use a clean, evenly lit setup, such as three-point lighting and an HDRI, with a plain background and a camera that frames the whole asset. Render at 1080p or higher, 24 to 30 frames per second, and loop smoothly. Tools such as Marmoset Toolbag, Blender Eevee and Unreal Engine are common for this. Add breakdown shots such as wireframe, UVs and texture maps, since studios like to see the process.
