Game-Ready Asset
Asset prepared to run in a real-time engine
Also known as: Game ready · Game-ready model · Real-time asset · Engine-ready asset
Definition
A game-ready asset is a 3D model prepared to run in a real-time engine: clean topology within a polygon budget, non-overlapping UVs at the right texel density, PBR textures, correct scale, pivot and naming, and usually LODs and collision. It is the finished version of a model that started as a high-poly sculpt or a scan. Game-ready also means it fits the project's style and technical limits, not just that it is low-poly.
In production
Before handing over, check the asset against a short list: polycount and LODs within budget, UVs packed with padding, textures and materials in the engine's format, a useful pivot, correct scale, collision added and names that follow the project convention. Test it in the engine in real lighting beside existing assets. Studios use checklists like this to catch problems early, and showing it in portfolio shots signals production readiness.
