Textures Missing After Exporting From Blender

Model arrives in the engine without its materials

Also known as: Blender FBX no textures · Blender export textures missing · Blender FBX embed textures · Blender to Unity textures · Blender to Unreal materials · Blender glTF textures

Quick answer

Textures go missing after an FBX export because FBX does not carry Blender's node-based materials, only simple material slots and file references. Set Path Mode to Copy and click Embed Textures in the exporter, or simply re-create the materials in Unreal or Unity from the texture files. glTF/GLB handles the Principled BSDF much better and carries the textures with the model. Procedural textures must be baked to images first.

How to fix it

Export the material slots with clear names so the engine can assign them quickly, and keep the textures in a project folder you control. For a game pipeline, plan to rebuild materials in the engine from your texture set, using Blender only for the model and its UVs. If a material needs to travel with the model, use glTF, and check that the textures use the metal/roughness workflow.
