URP Lit Shader

Unity's default PBR shader for URP

Also known as: Universal Render Pipeline Lit · URP Lit · URP Simple Lit · URP Unlit · URP Baked Lit

Definition

The URP Lit shader is the standard PBR shader of Unity's Universal Render Pipeline. It reads base color, metallic, smoothness, normal, occlusion and emission maps, and supports transparency, alpha clipping and detail maps. URP also includes cheaper shaders for other needs: Simple Lit for non-PBR lighting, Baked Lit for static lighting only and Unlit for flat color. Lit is the right choice for most realistic and stylized objects.

In production

Use Lit by default and switch to a cheaper shader only when profiling shows a need. Unity's Smoothness is the inverse of roughness, and the metallic map's red channel and the smoothness in the alpha channel are the packing it expects, so maps from Substance Painter need the right export preset. Surface Options hold the settings that fix common problems, such as Render Face and Alpha Clipping.
