Set Origin in Blender

Move the pivot point of an object

Also known as: Blender origin point · Blender change origin · Blender origin to geometry · Blender origin to 3D cursor · Blender pivot point wrong

Quick answer

To change an object's origin, which is its pivot point, in Blender, select it in Object Mode and use Object > Set Origin. Origin to Geometry centers it on the mesh, Origin to 3D Cursor puts it where the cursor is, and Geometry to Origin moves the mesh instead. To put it at a custom spot, place the 3D cursor there first and then choose Origin to 3D Cursor.

How to fix it

Set a useful origin before exporting to a game engine: usually at the bottom center for props, at the hinge for doors, and at the feet for characters. Origins affect rotation, scale, mirroring and snapping, so set them early. Using Affect Only Origins in the Options menu lets you move the origin by hand with the Move tool, and it can be reset by applying transforms.
