Geometry Nodes
Blender's node-based procedural modeling system
Also known as: Blender Geometry Nodes · Blender procedural modeling · Blender scatter nodes · Geo nodes · Blender node modifier
Definition
Geometry Nodes is Blender's node-based system for procedural modeling. You connect nodes in a graph that creates, changes and instances geometry, and the result updates whenever you change a parameter. It is used as a modifier, so it can scatter rocks and grass, build procedural buildings, fences and cables, and create variations from one setup. Because it is non-destructive, artists can change proportions, counts or seeds long after the first build.
In production
Start with simple setups such as scattering instances on a surface with density and random rotation, and then build up to modular generators. Expose parameters through the modifier panel so others can use the asset without opening the graph. For game assets, apply or realize the result before export, since engines do not read the node graph. Node setups can be saved in the Asset Browser.
