Asset Browser

Blender's built-in library for reusable assets

Also known as: Blender asset browser · Blender asset library · Mark as asset Blender · Blender pose library · Blender asset catalog

Definition

The Asset Browser is Blender's built-in library for reusable assets such as objects, materials, poses, collections, node groups and worlds. You mark an item as an asset, give it a preview and tags, and store it in an asset library on disk, then drag it into any scene. Libraries can be shared by a team, which makes it a simple way to keep a kit of props, materials and presets organized.

In production

Create a library per project or per team, name assets clearly and add tags so they are easy to find. Marking collections as assets and dragging them in places collection instances, which is useful for modular kits and set dressing. Keep source files for the assets alongside the library. For game production, the Asset Browser is for the Blender side only; the engine has its own asset management.
