Multi-Cut Tool
Maya tool for cutting and adding edges
Also known as: Maya Multi-Cut · Maya cut tool · Maya insert edge loop · Maya add edges · Maya Mesh Tools Multi-Cut
Definition
The Multi-Cut tool is Maya's main tool for adding edges to a mesh. It can cut across faces, insert edge loops, split faces and delete edges with the same tool, using click and drag on edges and with snapping to useful points. It replaced several older tools and is the standard way to add detail, support loops and change edge flow in Maya, and it is found in the Mesh Tools menu.

Use it with snapping to midpoints and with the edge loop option for clean topology, and combine it with Extrude, Bevel and Target Weld to build and fix models. Work with quads wherever possible, and avoid cutting through faces that will create triangles or poles in the wrong places. The tool's options change how cuts snap and slide, so check them when cuts land in unexpected places.
