Set Driven Key

Link one attribute to another in a rig

Also known as: Maya Set Driven Key · Maya SDK · Maya driven key · Maya corrective rig · Maya blend shape driver

Definition

Set Driven Key is a Maya tool that links one attribute, the driver, to another, the driven, using a curve. When the driver changes, the driven attribute follows according to the keyed relationship. It is used throughout rigging: a finger curl control bends all three finger joints, an elbow angle triggers a corrective blend shape, and a slider moves a facial expression. It is found in the Animate menu.

In production

Use it for simple, predictable relationships, such as controls driving joints and blend shapes, and give driver attributes clear names. Many riggers now prefer node-based setups or expressions for complex relationships. Driven keys exported to game engines do not carry over, so for games the result should be baked into the animation or recreated with engine tools such as Control Rig and Animation Blueprints.
