Objects Disappear Near the Camera in Unity

Geometry cut off when you get close

Also known as: Unity near clip plane · Unity object disappears when close · Unity camera clipping · Unity clipping through walls · Camera near plane Unity

Quick answer

Objects disappear when the camera gets close because they are inside the camera's near clip plane. Open the Camera component, expand Clipping Planes and lower Near, whose default is 0.3, to a small value such as 0.05 to 0.1. Do not go to extremes, because a very small near plane compared with the far plane reduces depth precision and makes distant surfaces flicker.

How to fix it

If you need very close views, such as first-person weapons or product viewers, use a separate camera for those objects instead of shrinking the near plane for the whole scene. Check the Scene view too, since it has its own clipping settings in the camera options. When walls clip in third-person games, the cause is often the camera collision, not the near plane.
