Bright Locations
6 images
A cluster of stylized MMO-style houses designed to read clearly at a distance while still holding up under close-camera inspection. Each house went through a clay-render pass first — flat grey shading with no textures — to check roofline, proportion, and readability against neighboring buildings before any colour or material work began. The final palette leans into warm wood and thatch tones typical of a friendly, low-stakes starting zone, the kind of hub area a new player spends their first hour in before heading into darker biomes.
Six images document the set from different angles, since a village kit needs to prove it doesn't repeat visibly once several houses stand side by side — a single hero screenshot can hide obvious tiling that becomes glaring the moment two identical rooflines sit next to each other. This kind of stylized environment work is covered in the Texture Artist course, where students learn to build a readable colour palette before worrying about individual surface detail. Grouped under Bright Locations, it sits opposite the gallery's darker dungeon pieces on purpose — the two categories are a useful side-by-side for anyone trying to understand how lighting mood, not just geometry, defines a scene's genre.
