Characters & Bosses
4 images
A heavily armored death-knight character built in ZBrush, shown here across sculpt, colour, and final scene render stages. Armor plating like this lives and dies on edge definition and material read — the sculpt pass focused on getting panel gaps, rivets, and battle damage right before any colour was applied, and the colour render exists as its own checkpoint to confirm the palette communicated "undead knight" without tipping into looking simply grey and metallic. The final scene render adds atmospheric lighting on top of that already-locked sculpt and colour foundation, rather than trying to fix silhouette problems with lighting alone.
Four images document the full pipeline: two separate sculpt-stage renders showing the armor from different angles, a dedicated colour render used as the material checkpoint described above, and the final atmospheric scene render. Locking sculpt and colour as two distinct, separately reviewed stages — rather than iterating on both at once — is exactly the sequencing taught in the 3D Character Artist course for any hero-level character asset. Alongside the rock golem, it's one of just two entries in the Characters & Bosses category, both built as enemy-facing designs rather than player-facing heroes, and both leaning on dramatic, high-contrast lighting to sell threat rather than the flatter lighting used across the environment pieces.
